Angika the language of Anga

Angika (अंगिका) was mainly spoken in the ancient part of the what is now called Anga region of Bihar specially  the Eastern and South Bihar, Jharkhand, Bengal, Assam, and Tarai region of Nepal and Orrisa. It was also the ancient language and spoken in some countries in ancient times such Cambodia, Vietnam and Malaysia. The angika language is part of the family of langauges that is a member of the Bengali language, Assamese, Oriya and Nepali and the Khmer language as it is has close relationships. अंगिका the development of the ancient native and the initial phase of the development is linked to अपभ्रंश. About 4 to 5 million people use Angika as their mother language. As a language its users live in different parts of India, including in many countries across the world. In India, it is still to achieve the status of a language. Literature wise its has its own rich history and has produced several famous poets.

 

 

Angika is also spoken in other parts of India specially Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta, Durgapur, Punjab, Vadodara, Surat, Patna, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bokaro and other parts of the country.

 

Other alternate labels for the language include: Anga, Aangi, Angikar, Chhika-Chhiki, Bhagalpuri, Apbhramsa and Bihari.

 

Dialects of Angika iclude: Deshi, Dakhnaha, Mungeria, Devgharia, Gidhhoria and Dharampuria.
